About the event

Poplar Island is one of the top birding locations in the state, with 271 species on record, and accessible only by boat through MES tours. Rebuilt using dredge material from the bay, Poplar Island has particularly excellent shorebird habitat, and mid-August is an excellent time to see southbound sandpipers and plovers, among other things. Carpool from Hammonds Ferry Park and Ride at 6:30 AM, or meet at the Tilghman land base to leave by boat at 9:00 AM, then tour the island by bus and foot. Active construction work may limit exactly where we can go. Closed-toed shoes are required; scopes are useful. Trip limited to 24 - first come first served. RSVP for full directions and instructions.
